Mom of Child That Wandered Away Thanks Law Enforcement

The mom of a young child who wandered away from her aunt’s Alexandria House apartment and made it all the way to Shawnee State University thanked Portsmouth Police and Shawnee State officers for finding the girl and bringing her home safely.

In a post in the Scioto County Daily News group, she said. “One of a parents worse fears was my experience this past Friday at 6:32pm I can’t thank Shawnee State Security and Officer Brewer along with other officers at Portsmouth PD my youngest was spending time with my sister as I was getting odds and ends done I get home to a frantic call from my sister.”

The woman said she rushed to her sister’s apartment hoping the child was hiding, but when they figured out she was genuinely missing, called 911 – only to learn that SSU Police had already found the girl. “The dispatcher says Shawnee state security got her all the way down 4th Street in town!!!! My 5 year old ( who has been diagnosed with Oppositional defiant disorder along with others) took off stealth mode from my sister after she says pretending to go-to sleep so her aunt took the opportunity to relax and got comfortable and fell asleep too but then my child manages to go out the door on the 7th floor at Alexandria house!!!! Take steps all the way down to walk all the way to her adult cousin’s home by SSU.”

We told you earlier that SSU officers had handed the girl over to PPD, who had, in turn, called CPS. However, when the frantic mom called in, they returned the child to her, though they did tell her they planned to file child endangerment charges. However, the mom remained grateful, “Everyone usually takes such negativity about those who serve and protect and yes they are humans who can make mistakes the same as the next but they also react very quickly and because of those swift actions my child remained safe!!”
