Portsmouth Police were called in to investigate a tense situation between a mom and her son’s girlfriend on Saturday.
The son called 911 to say his mom was threatening his girlfriend. When officers responded to the scene, they learned the pair were living in the man’s mother’s house.
The girlfriend said the woman had threatened to assault or kill her, and the boyfriend confirmed the death threats. Another relative said the mom said she would hit the girlfriend in the head with a bat.
They also said the mother had locked the children out of the house on a hundred-degree day. They said they didn’t want the mom jailed but did think she needed to go for a mental evaluation as she was not taking her medication.
The mom admitted to threatening to smack the girlfriend in the mouth for being disrespectful.
Officers advised the woman that she could not assault the woman and explained how she could evict the son and his girlfriend if she wanted them to leave.
Police also advised the girlfriend on the process for forcibly admitting someone to the hospital for a mental evaluation and how to file a protection order.
Officers said it was an ongoing issue for which they had no solution.
