Morehead Police find Drugs and Bombs During Traffic Stop

The Morehead Police Department received a call about a reckless driver on Rodburn Hollow Road.

Officers responded and located the vehicle in Rodburn Park. Sgt. Josh Ison made contact with the operator, Buffy J. Litteral, of Mount Sterling, Ky. Litteral appeared to be intoxicated. Sgt. Ison deployed his K-9 unit which gave a positive indication of drugs or narcotics inside the vehicle.

Upon search of the vehicle, Sgt. Ison located Methamphetamine, pills, and paraphernalia. While searching he also came across a box containing five pipe bombs and bomb-making materials. The bomb appeared to be live, fused, and capable of explosion.

Due to the nature of the explosives, Kentucky State Police bomb technicians, BATF, and FBI were called in to assist in defusing the ordinance. BATE was able to dismantle the ordinance and confirm the explosives were live and charged. Litteral is currently lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center for Public intoxication, Possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree, Possession of a controlled substance Ist degree, and Possession of a destructive device.

BATF and the FBI are continuing an investigation into the explosives with possible federal charges pending their investigation.
