Murder Arrest in Chesapeake Shooting Over Dog
Police have arrested a 34-year-old Chesapeake man for murder in the shooting death of his neighbor. Witnesses said the deadly incident was prompted by an argument about a dog.
Officers arrested Dashawn Evans at the Marriot Hotel in Ashland, after what authorities called a lengthy surveillance.
Evans is accused of gunning down his neighbor 33-year-old Sharmin M. McAllister Sunday afternoon after a disagreement about a dog.
Deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and EMS personnel found McAllister dead in the parking lot of the apartment building on Sunday afternoon after responding to a shooting report.
EMS personnel began to treat the woman while deputies spoke to witnesses. Witnesses said the McCallister got into an argument with her downstairs neighbor Dashawn Evens over a dog. Evans then pulled a gun and shot the woman. After the incident, he fled the scene in a gray SUV.
The Coroner’s Office pronounced the woman dead at the scene. According to Boyd County Jail records, Evans is being held without bond on fugitive charges.
