PORTSMOUTH — The case against a man already facing aggravated murder charges in Scioto County just got more serious.
Darius Herron, who remains locked up in the Scioto County Jail, has now been indicted on two additional felony charges after the latest session of the Scioto County Grand Jury.
According to court records, Herron is accused of attempting to intimidate or hinder a witness connected to a criminal case. The indictment alleges that on or about March 25, he knowingly used threats or unlawful pressure in an effort to influence someone involved in the investigation.
Those new charges — intimidation of an attorney, victim, or witness — are stacked on top of an already severe case.
🕵️ A Case Still Shrouded in Questions
Herron was originally charged earlier this year with aggravated murder, obstruction of official business, and assault, but details about the alleged killing itself remain scarce.
Court filings have provided little information about what led to the murder charge, who the victim is, or what evidence investigators have gathered. As of now, prosecutors have not publicly laid out the full story behind the case.
Here’s what the timeline shows so far:
- January 14: Assault charge filed
- January 24: Herron arrested and booked into the Scioto County Jail, listing an Illinois address
- January 28: Aggravated murder and obstruction charges filed
Herron appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where a judge ordered him held in jail under bond.
📍 Not New to the Area
While Herron has repeatedly listed Chicago addresses, court records show he’s been in and around Portsmouth for at least the past two years.
- August 2024: Charged with aggravated menacing and disorderly conduct. The menacing charge was dismissed, but he was convicted of disorderly conduct and ordered to pay court costs.
- June 2025: Arrested again for assault. He pleaded no contest and received a 15-day suspended jail sentence, along with a fine and court costs.
- September 2025: Stopped for driving left of center, this time giving a Portsmouth address.
For his most recent arrest, Herron once again listed Chicago as his residence.
⚖️ What the New Charges Mean
Witness intimidation charges can carry serious consequences on their own — and they often signal that prosecutors believe someone attempted to interfere with the case behind the scenes.
When added to an aggravated murder case, they can also complicate defense strategies and strengthen the prosecution’s position moving forward.
🔎 What Happens Next
Herron remains in custody as the case continues to develop. With the new indictment, the legal stakes have grown even higher — but many key details about the underlying murder are still unknown.
For now, the biggest questions remain unanswered:
- What exactly happened in the alleged murder?
- Who is the victim?
- And what led to the intimidation charges being filed?
SCDN will continue to follow this case closely and update readers as more information becomes available.
