My Name Is Kevin Bailey

Kevin Bailey had a tough life. His sister Karen Skaggs said he struggled with drug addiction for decades. She admits he had a big mouth sometimes and was pretty good at making folks angry. She also said he was a loving brother and a good friend despite occasionally losing his temper and running off at the mouth.

Bailey’s big mouth led to his arrest in the wee hours of May 24. He yelled at a neighbor and waved a pipe around. According to the police report, he didn’t get physical. There was still enough evidence to arrest for aggravated menacing for threatening someone.

Bailey was walked into the Scioto County Jail. He would never walk out. Three days later, Skaggs got the call that her brother was on life support at a Columbus hospital. Skull fractured. Ribs broken and Brain irreparably damaged. She made the painful decision to remove life support and Bailey died.  Karen told us her last words to him were a promise to seek justice.

Jail officials say Bailey was injured when he scuffled with guards and hit his head on a door. Skaggs thinks otherwise and had been very vocal.

Justice For Kevin

Tonight Karen Skaggs posted this on social media in memory of her brother.

My name is Kevin Bailey, my sister knows all three of your names. She knows who picked me up and drove my head into the concrete floor several times and the the door
I know I was a drug addict.  But I didn’t want to die that night….that way like an animal. I had friends and family that had to see me after you did this to me.
I didn’t have the best life sleeping in backyards in tents or abandoned buildings but i was a human that had people who loved me. My liver was worn out and i wasnt going to be here much longer. I had no fat or meat on my ribs to protect them as you kicked them i could hear them breaking as you laughed. Now my sister is going to fight until she gets justice for me. JUSTICE FOR ME,,, KEVIN BAILEY!!!!

We recently spoke to a jail insider who confirmed Skaggs version of events and said other corrections officers were disgusted by what had happened.

The Ohio Attorney General has launched an investigation into Bailey’s death. We reached out to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Attorney General’s office for an update on the situation. So far, we have not heard back.
