Deputies responded to a report of a brawl in front of an apartment complex just after 2 pm.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered multiple people in the road yelling and screaming at each other. Deputies said at least ten people were already outside, and more were coming out of apartments to join in the squabble at Lawrence Commons Apartments.

Officers heard individuals screaming at a woman and threatening to “beat her ass.” Officers detained the pair that made the threat and put them in a patrol car.

The woman in the road also made threats and was also placed in the back of a squad car. Officers said multiple people continued to yell and scream. They advised them to leave or face being arrested. When police called for more backup, the crowd dispersed.

When officers spoke to the combatants, one woman said it was the result of an ongoing incident with her neighbors. She said the man gets drunk, cusses out neighbors, and threatens to fight them, even using racial slurs directed at children. She said the management of the complex had refused to address the issue.

Officers cautioned her that no matter what happened, her standing in the street and yelling was disorderly conduct and could result in her arrest.

When officers spoke to the neighbor, she said the issue started when she and her boyfriend came out of their home, and the neighbor started recording them on her phone. The man said he was tired of dealing with the woman. He said he hadn’t meant to escalate the issue, but that the neighbor had no business taking pictures of his call.

Officers reminded them that people can take your picture in a public place.

Deputies arrested all three individuals for disorderly conduct and booked them into the Lawrence County Jail.
