When a man tried to set up camp near Norwich Avenue in Franklin Furnace, neighbors weren’t having any part of it.
Witnesses called 911 to report a man had blocked the road with his pickup truck, then got out and started chopping wood on the riverbank to make space for a camp.
Officers caught up with the man near South Gray Street and found him having a conversation with someone in his truck. However, they noted that no one else was in the truck.
Deputies also said the truck was stuffed so full of items there wasn’t room for anyone else. The man admitted to deputies that he had mental health issues and had recently used drugs.
Officers called for an ambulance, but the man didn’t want to go to a hospital, and medics couldn’t force him. He told officers he’d called a local rehab, and they were on the way to pick him up.
