Nelson “Pret” Brickey Jr., 89 of West Portsmouth, died Thursday, March 12, 2026 at SOMC Hospice. He was born May 11, 1936 in Portsmouth to the late Nelson Preston Brickey Sr. and Laura Amanda Smith Brickey.

Pret was retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad where he started at the age of 18. Through out his life, he enjoyed Fishing, hunting and gardening with family and friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Mae Shaffer Brickey, whom he married on October 8, 1958, a son Mike Brickey, a daughter, Brenda Williams, 2 brothers; Willard Lake Brickey and Alva Deek Brickey, 3 sisters; Naomi Fife, Mary Lou Turner and Wynona Ruark-Brickey.

Pret is survived by 3 daughters; Barb (Jerry) Jividen, Linda (Mike) Pollard, and Annette Fields; a sister, Iona Brickey; 13 grandchildren, Heather (Daniel) Mullins, Candice (Matthew) Carpenter-Weisenberger, Amanda Jividen-Mitchell, Jessica (Jesse) Frye-Zeiler, Preston (Becca) Frye, Aaron (Elisabeth) Noel, Josh Frye, Tyler (Kayla) Noel, Keith Conley, Autumn Brickey, Mary (Austin) Cantrill, Ira (Peyton) Williams and Kristin Fields;14 great grandchildren, Addison and Ethan Mullins, Tiffany Frye, Samuel Zeiler, Lily Noel, Kenna Emylou Conley, Kabhan Conley, Mylez Conley, Brayden Bice, Joshua Gemmell, Abel Weisenberger, Gracelynn Cantrill, Tommy Noel, and Nora Noel.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Carlene Shaffer officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park.
