The Village of New Boston is looking to hire police officers.
The New Boston Police Department is now accepting applications and resumes from candidates interested in joining the department.
Resumes can be sent ahead of time to nbpd@newbostonpolice.com for pre-screening. However, the department said applicants must also fill out a paper application and turn it in so it is on file for the hiring process.
Applications can be picked up from dispatch at 3978 Rhodes Avenue Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The department says it offers:
$500 yearly clothing allowance
Beards and visible tattoos allowed
Health, dental, life, and vision insurance
Sick time, personal time, and vacation time
Ability to transfer sick time from a previous employer
12-hour shifts

There is one important requirement: applicants must be OPOTA certified before employment.
OPOTA stands for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy. In Ohio, people who want to serve as peace officers generally must complete an approved basic peace officer training academy and pass the state certification exam.
In plain language, OPOTA certification means the applicant has already gone through Ohio’s required police academy training and testing process.
That matters for hiring because it means the department is looking for candidates who are already trained and eligible to work as peace officers, rather than someone who still needs to be sent through basic academy first.
