New Boston Police are searching for a pair of suspects accused of stealing high-dollar lawn equipment — and they’re keeping their sense of humor while doing it.
In a Facebook post that quickly grabbed attention, the department described how one unidentified man allegedly strolled into Walmart, locked eyes with a Mammotion Luba 2 self-mowing lawnmower, and decided yard work freedom was worth more than the $1,998 price tag.
According to police, the man pressed the demo button and watched the robotic mower roll toward the exit. Instead of stopping it, he allegedly walked beside it as the automatic doors opened and the mower continued cruising outside.
The department joked that “self-mowing does not mean self-paying,” noting that store security was not impressed with what they described as a “hands-free checkout.”
Police are now asking for help identifying the suspect.
Not Just One Lawn Lover
Officers say that wasn’t the only lawn-care-related theft in recent days.
In a separate post, New Boston Police said another unidentified suspect has allegedly stolen $1,349.97 worth of Husqvarna lawn care equipment over the past couple of days.
“Yes, we said lawn care equipment,” the department wrote. “Bruh, what are you gonna do with all that lawn care equipment?”
Despite the lighthearted tone, police stress the thefts are serious crimes and they are actively investigating.
How to Help
Anyone with information about the identity of either suspect is asked to contact the New Boston Police Department at (740) 456-4109.
While the department may be having a little fun with its social media posts, officials say lawn equipment theft is costly for retailers — and ultimately drives up prices for everyone else.
If you recognize the individuals described in the posts, police would like to hear from you.
