New Surprise Taylor Swift Album

Taylor Swift

Some people actually did manage to finish all those projects they planned for quarantine. Singer Taylor Swift announced Thursday that she’s dropping a surprise new album at the stroke of midnight on Friday. “Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. Surprise!” Swift said on social media.

All Fresh Music

According to the Grammy-winning singer, all of the songs on the album are new tunes. Swift said she “…poured all my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into.”

The 30-year-old singer said she wrote and recorded the music while quarantining but did manage to collaborate with other musicians virtually. She said that in the past she would have waited for a “perfect time” to release her music. However, she said the COVID-19 pandemic changed her way of thinking. “The times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with.”

Called Folklore, the surprise Taylor Swift album has 16 tracks. The title might suggest it represents a return to Swift’s country roots but we won’t know until the music debuts.

Safety First

Swift said she’ll release a video for the song Cardigan on Thursday. She directed the video herself. The singer assured fans that strict safety protocols were followed during the shoot. “The entire shoot was overseen by a medical inspector. Everyone wore masks and stayed away from each other.” She said she even took care of her own hair and makeup to cut down on contact.

Last month, Swift courted controversy in her home state of Tennessee when she supported the destruction of a statue of a journalist. Edward Carmack known for racist views.  She also supported the removal of a statue of General Nathan Bedford Forrest. “As a Tennessean, it makes me sick that there are monuments standing in our state that celebrate racist historical figures who did evil things,”
