New van improves Access Scioto County’s efficiency

Access Scioto County’s purchase of a new vehicle will not only save on fuel It should also help speed up service.

While approving the purchase of a new van at the Scioto County Commissioners’ meeting, Commissioner Bryan Davis said he was especially pleased with the reasons behind the purchase.

ASC offers rides for all Scioto County residents and those living in South Shore on a will-call basis.

Davis said that most of the vehicles the service uses are medium-sized. On slow days they waste a lot of fuel transporting only one or two passengers on a trip. The new vehicle will also be more energy-efficient.

The new vehicle is a van, which can be used for trips with just a few passengers. Additionally, it can also supplement when the larger bus is fully booked. “There won’t be as much wait time.”

“If there’s an emergency situation or someone needs to get the doctor right now,” Davis said. “This will help with that, too.”

He said the purchase was not coming out of the County budget. The funds are provided by ODOT and other agencies.

Amazing Rates Trips cost just $1 each way within a grid region and an addition .50 for additional miles.
