A terrifying crash involving newborn twins set the tone for a busy day on Portsmouth roadways, as officers and first responders handled two separate wrecks—both ending without serious injuries, but not without consequences.
🚨 Car Crashes Into House With Newborn Twins Inside
Just after 1 p.m., Portsmouth officers and EMS were dispatched to Dorman Drive after a report that a vehicle had struck a house. The initial 911 call was especially alarming, with the caller reporting that newborn twins were inside the vehicle and that smoke appeared to be coming from the car.
First responders moved quickly to assess the situation. EMS checked all occupants, including the infants, and determined that no one needed to be transported to the hospital.
Police cited the driver for failure to control and arranged for the vehicle to be towed. Officers also gathered information for an official crash report.
🚒 Evening Crash Takes Out Stop Sign, Ends in Arrest
Later, around 7 p.m., a Portsmouth Fire Department crew came across another crash at U.S. 52 and Harding. A vehicle had left the roadway and struck a stop sign, knocking it down.
Although no injuries were reported, officers discovered a woman in the vehicle had an active warrant. Police issued a traffic citation, contacted Portsmouth City Services to repair the damaged stop sign, and arranged for a tow.
The woman, identified as Tanya Rawlins, was booked into the Scioto County Jail on a charge of failure to appear.
From a vehicle crashing into a home with newborn twins inside to an evening wreck that resulted in an arrest, the incidents served as stark reminders of how quickly everyday driving can turn dangerous.
