A dog recently adopted from the Scioto County Dog Shelter did not get the happy ending everyone hoped for.
Scioto County Sheriff’s deputies were called to McDermott after a report of a possible deceased dog in a yard.
According to the sheriff’s office report, deputies found a deceased dog that had been on a chain. The reporting person had moved the dog into the shade and taken it off the chain before deputies arrived.
A humane agent was notified.
The dog warden was also advised and said it was a humane case.
Deputies took photos and gathered information for a report.
According to the log, people at the scene said they had just gotten the dog from the pound two weeks earlier.
No arrest was listed in the information provided.
The report does not say how the dog died, how long it had been outside, or whether heat, neglect, illness, injury, or another issue may have played a role.
But the fact that a dog adopted from the shelter just two weeks earlier was found dead in a yard and had been on a chain is exactly the kind of case that raises hard questions.
