Toddlers spotted wandering the streets alone seem to have become a reoccurring issue in our area. We told you about a man and woman who were arrested for child endangerment after a tot was spotted alone in Wayne Hills. Now, a report of a similar incident on Hutchins Street.

Just after 11 a.m., an eagled-eyed Hutchins Street neighbor spotted an unsupervised toddler walking alone on Hutchins Street. When the child wasn’t able to tell the neighbor where they lived, the concerned citizen immediately called the police.

Officers rushed to the scene and then called in CPS. The tot apparently really liked the responding officers, and they held the child after the neighbor got tired.

Officers canvased the neighborhood looking for parents in search of a child and checked at a nearby school to see if anyone recognized the tot.

After a fruitless search of the area and Mound Park, officers received a tip about the whereabouts of the child’s mother. CPS also came to the scene, and officers requested the aid of a detective.

Officers stayed at the residence believed to belong to the child’s parent for some time along with CPS workers. It appears no arrests were made at the time.

Listen to how the officers dealt with the situation.
