A Dayton police officer and an armed suspect had a physical altercation that ended with both men getting shot.

The officer had responded to a request for help at a store around 6:45 pm. Soon after, the officer spotted the suspect walking along the street. The officer told the suspect to stop but was attacked instantly by the suspect, who was then tased.

After falling to the ground, the man pulled a handgun and shot at least one round at the officer. The officer responded promptly with his own shots.

Despite being shot in the side of his head, the officer sustained no life-threatening injuries. The 39-year-old suspect was critically wounded after being shot “multiple times.”

According to authorities, neither the name of the men involved nor any further details about the shooting have yet been released, which is still under investigation.
