A report of a suspect with a gun on St. Rt.348 led to an injured officer and a stunned suspect. Just after 9 p.m., a witness said a man was walking in the middle of the road, and he asked him to move. The man then pulled a gun on the caller.
Officers met up with the witness at the fire station and went looking for the suspect at a nearby vacant house.
The suspect ran from officers, but they managed to take him down with a taser. Officers sent for a squad to remove the taser prongs, and an officer involved in the chase reported a knee injury.
Deputies arrested David Allen Mays for aggravated menacing, obstructing official business, and resisting arrest. This was the 36-year-old homeless man’s 15th visit to the Scioto County Jail.
Officers arrested him back in April and May of this year for assault. Previous arrests include breaking and entering, probation violation, criminal trespass, possessing drug abuse instruments, felonious assault, intimidation of a victim, drug possession, contempt, burglary, criminal damaging, violating a protection order, domestic violence, failure to appear, assaulting a law enforcement officer, driving under a suspension, and failure to appear.
Mays is due back in court on October 20 for a pre-trial hearing.
