Arson is a huge problem in our area, especially when it comes to vehicles. Fortunately, it looks like an alert citizen prevented a vehicle from going up in flames in Wayne Hills and cops arrived just in the nick of time to prevent what could have been an explosive situation near a densely populated area.
Just after midnight, a witness contacted 9-1-1 to report a man who told him he was going to burn an SUV sitting on blocks on Wayne Avenue.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found a rag stuffed inside the gas tank. When they spoke to the suspect, the man claimed the vehicle was already like that and someone had busted out his windows.
Officers advised the man to get his things and leave.
