Officers responded to multiple incidents involving the homeless and individuals with mental health issues throughout the day.

At 8:26 a.m., employees of Beltone Hearing on Gay Street contacted PPD about an issue with homeless individuals who had set up camp in the back of their building.

Police spoke to the individuals and advised them to pack up and move on. Officers warned if they returned to the property, they could be arrested for trespassing.

At 11 a.m., callers reported a man lying on the sidewalk at 11th and Gay Streets. When officers spoke with the man, they learned he was taking a nap. Police advised him to move along.

At 12:44 p.m., the owner of an auto repair shop reported a shirtless man outside his 8th Street business yelling at people and generally causing a commotion.

When officers spoke to the man, he knew his name and where he was. Police said he didn’t seem to be intoxicated, and he refused offers of medical attention.

The business owner was upset that police allowed the man to walk away, but they said since no crime had been committed, they had no other choice.

Three hours later, a caller reported a shirtless man running around Tracy Park screaming at people and continually running into the street. Officers said the man appeared to have severe mental health issues.

Scioto County Deputies also responded to a report of a shirtless man yelling, cussing, and jumping into traffic on Ohio River Road.  They asked the man to get out of the road.
