Ohio Hospital Gives New Kidney to Wrong Patient

Apparently, an Ohio hospital gave a patient a kidney that was supposed to be for someone else.

University Hospitals in Cleveland apologized and put two workers on administrative leave for the mistake.

Despite the mistake, the person’s kidneys are compatible and it’s likely they’ll recover, say medical experts in Ohio.

Surgery on the original patient has been postponed. Officials say the Ohio hospital is looking into how this happened to prevent it from happening again.

In a statement, hospital spokesperson George Stamatis apologized to the victim and the family members. Stamatis added that the situation is in total conflict with the hospital’s commitment to helping patients return to health and regain a sense of well-being.

Hospital officials have notified the United Network for Organ Sharing.
