A man on parole for failing to comply with police has done it again — and this time, deputies had to pull a Taser to end the chase.
It was around 2 a.m. when a Scioto County Sheriff’s deputy, parked outside Victory Baptist Church, spotted a four-wheeler flying down St. Rt. 104 with no taillights. But when the officer tried to stop him, 38-year-old Daniel J. Brown of Otway hit the gas and disappeared into the night.
🚨 Officers briefly lost him, but caught up again as he tore down Dry Run Road at nearly 70 mph before turning onto Hardscrabble Road, where the pursuit came to a dramatic end. Deputies surrounded Brown and held him at Taser point before taking him into custody.
Brown was booked into the Scioto County Jail for:
- ❌ Failure to comply
- 💡 Operating a vehicle without taillights
📚 NOT HIS FIRST RODEO:
- Currently on parole for two previous failure to comply convictions
- 2018: Busted for manufacturing drugs, sentenced to 8 years
- 2011: Convicted of kidnapping and aggravated robbery, served 6 years
- Other charges include:
- Resisting arrest
- Falsification
- Drug paraphernalia
- Disrupting public service
- Breaking and entering
- Theft
And yet, after appearing in Portsmouth Municipal Court, Brown was appointed a public defender, released on his own recognizance, and just two days later? He pleaded guilty — and walked away with a suspended fine.
💡 What Can You Do About Repeat Offenders?
- 🧠 Stay informed. Know who’s being released into your community.
- 📞 Report reckless behavior. That call might stop the next chase.
- 💬 Push for real consequences. Let local courts know you’re watching.
- 🛡️ Support first responders. These men and women risk their lives chasing the same criminals over and over.
Because when a man with a violent rap sheet keeps failing to comply — and keeps walking free — maybe it’s time the system stops giving him so many chances.
