Officers responded to a report of a woman slumped over at the corner of 5th Street and Broadway just before 9:30 am. The caller said it appeared to be an overdose.
When police arrived on the scene, they discovered a homeless woman who frequently causes issues for downtown businesses. Over the winter, she frequently sat up camp in the Post Office and, at one point tied the doors together to keep the police out.
She’s been arrested five times since May for various issues including drug possession and disorderly conduct.
An ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but she refused treatment. Police discovered she had an open warrant through the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office. However, the Sheriff’s Office suggested they take her to SOMC first for evaluation. Officers arrested her for failure to appear and booked her into the Scioto County Jail.
There was another report of an overdose on 5th Street at 6 am. The patient initially refused treatment, but later called and asked for the ambulance to come back.
A man was discovered lying on the sidewalk in front of the Paramount Beauty Academy with a bottle of pills next to him at 8:30 am on Saturday. An EMS unit transported him to the hospital.
