Police Called Homeless Shelter To Resolve Teddy Bear Dispute

Officers helped resolve a teddy bear dispute and police were called to deal with a misbehaving child on a school bus. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Cry for Help

Just after 12:35 am, a caller reported a woman screaming for someone to stop hitting her in a house on 7th Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they found an elderly couple. The wife was watching TV and the husband was asleep.

Police determined the cries were not coming from that home. They searched the area but didn’t find any other problems in the area.

Upset Ex

Police answered a call to Waller Street for a welfare check at 1:22 am. A man claimed a woman was arguing with her boyfriend. The caller was the woman’s former boyfriend.

When the police got there, the woman explained that she wasn’t arguing with her boyfriend. She claimed her ex called earlier and told her he was going to call the police. He was upset she had a new boyfriend.

Police said all was well at the home.

Tazed and Confused

At 1:52 am, a Walnut Street caller reported that someone in a purple car attempted to taze her boyfriend.

The reporting party also told police that someone was driving around shooting pellets at people. Officers checked the area but found nothing suspicious.

Teddy Tussle

Officers were called to the 17th Street Homeless Shelter to settle an issue involving a teddy bear just after 4 pm.

The matter was settled when an employee of the shelter offered to buy the child who originally owned it a replacement. The person who had the bear was allowed to keep it.
