Police: Child support worker stole money from office

A Flatwoods woman is facing some serious charges. Kentucky State Police say she stole over $100,000 from the Boyd County Child Support Office.

Mary Pickett, 55, was employed as an office manager at the agency. Kentucky State Police were first tipped off to the theft back in September when they received a call from the Child Support Office about concerns she was taking money from the office payroll account. Pickett was fired and escorted out of the office.

An investigation uncovered that this was no one-time thing. It had been going on for several years. Police say Mrs. Picket forged the name of another county official more than 70 times to steal the money over a seven-year period.

The case went before the Boyd County Grand Jury last week and Mrs. Pickett was indicted on one count of theft and 76 counts of forgery.

The money in question came from the payroll account and not from any child support account or case. The case remains under investigation.
