PPD came to the rescue of a Grant Bridge Jumper and answered a report of a child beating. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Suspicious Activity

Just before 7 pm, Shawnee State University Security told police a citizen flagged them down to report a man stumbling down 3 rd Street. Officers offered him aid, but he refused and went stumbling down the street wearing only one shoe.

Child In Danger

A citizen flagged won an officer to Thomas Avenue to report a woman beating a child at a Thomas Avenue apartment earlier in the day.
Officers knocked on both the front and back door of the apartment but no one answered. They observed nothing suspicious outside the building and felt they had no reason to enter the residence. They told the witness to call them again if they see anything.

Afraid and Alone

Gun Put To Woman’s Head on 12th Street

A witness called police at 9:26 pm to report she saw a man put a gun to a woman’s head near Osborne’s Cleaners. The woman fled on foot, but the man caught up with her and forced her into a car. Police were unable to locate the victim or suspect.

Grant Bridge Jumper

Just before 10 pm, police received a report of someone who intended to jump off the Grant Bridge. They didn’t spot anyone on the bridge. However, another officer located the person and arranged to transport him to the hospital for treatment.

Baby In Danger?

Just before 11 pm, a caller contacted police to report that a baby had been crying all day at the Royal Inn. Police checked the room and found a sleeping 2-year-old that appeared to be okay.
