Portsmouth Cop Charged in DUI Crash

A Portsmouth, Ohio, police officer is facing OVI charges after an accident on Mickletwaite Road back on May 11th. Test results show his blood alcohol was nearly three times the legal limit.  

According to the crash report from the Ohio State Patrol, John Dixon’s blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit at the time of the 3-vehicle crash. The legal limit in Ohio is .08, and Dixon’s test results show a BAC of .221. 

Dixon was seriously injured in the crash, after he hit a parked car, slid across the roadway, hit another parked car, and ended up on the sidewalk. No other injuries were reported.

Dixon was charged with OVI and failure to maintain a clear distance on June 4. His initial arraignment in Portsmouth Municipal Court was set for June 12. He’s currently recovering from his injuries at home.  

The Portsmouth Police Department has not released a statement regarding his employment status.
