Portsmouth Firefighters Remember Fallen Brother

Portsmouth firefighters remembered a fallen brother today, one year after he tragically passed away suddenly while on duty.

Members of Unio IAFF Local 9 shared photos of Ed Long and memories of good times shared with the late firefighter/EMT, who passed away at the age of 55 after 27 years of service to the department.

The union said, “So long as they speak your name, you shall never die… If that statement is true, then we have done our part in keeping our departed brother Ed Long’s memory alive.

One year ago today, we lost Ed when he died suddenly while on duty. Firehouses are full of storytellers, and among ours Ed was the biggest and arguably the best.

As stories of past fires, debates we’ve had, and firehouse shenanigans are told daily, we have found this last year that it’s rare that Ed’s name doesn’t come up almost every time, connected to the event in some way. If Ed wasn’t directly involved in the matter being discussed, he still had an opinion on it and you’d want to hear it.

We miss you Ed.  Please remember Ed’s family at home, and his PFD family this day and everyday.”
