Portsmouth Man Indicted for 10 Counts of Rape, Sexual Battery, and 5 Counts of Drug Trafficking

On May 27th, 2022, Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman reported that the Portsmouth Police Department called about a sexual assault.

The victim was transferred to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment before being transported to Adena Health Systems in Waverly, Ohio for a sexual assault examination, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Thoroughman, Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel had been assigned to the case, which is being handled by the Portsmouth Police Department and the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.

After conducting interviews during the investigation, detectives were able to locate George Case Sanderlin, 45, at his residence at 2124 8th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio. The suspect was swiftly apprehended.

On June 1st, Sheriff Thoroughman announced that more charges could be presented to the Grand Jury.

A lengthy indictment against Sanderlin was returned by the Grand Jury on July 29th. They handed down indictments of 10 Counts of Rape, 10 Counts of Sexual Battery, 5 Counts of Trafficking in a Fentanyl-Related Compound, and 5 Counts of Permitting Drug Abuse.

Sanderlin has been held in the Scioto County Jail since 05/31/22 on a $120,000 bond.
