Portsmouth Man Involved in Police Chase & Shooting

One person was hospitalized for gunshot wounds; allegedly, they attacked a police officer.

In the early morning hours of Monday, March 29, 2021, the Ohio State Highway Patrol attempted to stop a vehicle going southbound on US-23. It didn’t stop, so they started chasing it.

When the vehicle approached Waverly, OSP backed off for safety reasons.

Then on US-32 and SR-104, Pike County deputies picked up the chase. Gunshots were fired when the vehicle charged a deputy in the 400 block of Spunk Run road.

The shooting wounded one individual out of the four people in the vehicle.

Her condition is stable after she was transferred to Grant Hospital. The shooting did not result in any injuries to police officers.

Trey Reed, 19, from Portsmouth, was charged with fleeing and eluding by Pike County. Reed had warrants for failure to appear from Scioto County. Investigations are still ongoing, and more charges may be filed.

SCDN spoke exclusively with a source close to the situation.

According to that source, the injured party was a 19-year-old female passenger. We’re told none of the occupants of the vehicle were armed. Finally, our source says the gunshot victim has a shattered hip. It is said she had a full scholarship to Marshall University for softball that she will not be able to use now.
