Portsmouth Officers Help Homeless Mom and Baby

Portsmouth officers discovered a dead body and tried to help a woman and baby with no place to go get out of the cold. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing. 

Under the Influence

Just after 1 am, officers responded to an overdose on Walnut Street. By the time they arrived, the victim was alert. He refused further medical assistance.

At 9:25 am, an officer responded to a request to meet a caseworker from CPS at a Kendall Avenue Apartment to assist in an interview.

What Was That Password, Again?

Police responded to a Vinton Avenue address for a commercial alarm at 9:39 am. It turned out someone had put in the wrong password.

Five minutes later an employee at Scrubs Central also accidentally set off the building alarm but didn’t have a password to shut it off. 

11th Street Building Damaged

Sleep Outfitters on 11th Street called police at 10:12 am to report a broken window. Officers discovered a piece of metal in the road and an oil trail from a vehicle in the parking lot. 

Body Discovered on Russ Street

At 11:25 am, police officer conducted a welfare check for a man at a Russ Street home. 

They spotted a man on the floor and broke into the home. Police discovered that the man was deceased and notified detectives.

Officer released the body to a local funeral home two hours later. 

Threats Were Made

A Wayne Avenue caller contacted police at 11:48 am to report that a man had threatened to kick down her door. Previously, she claims he threatened to shoot her. 

The officer said they would follow up with the suspect the next day as he allegedly was not home. 

Officers Help Homeless Mom and Baby

Police came to the rescue of a mom and baby with no place to go just before 5 pm.  

A caller contacted PPD to report that a woman with a 2-year-old was in the lobby of the Royal Inn on Kendall and that the woman had posted on Facebook a few minutes prior that she had nowhere to go and that she and her baby were out in the cold.

Officers initially couldn’t find the woman and child. They checked the 17th Street homeless shelter with no luck but eventually found the woman in a room. Police made sure the baby and the woman were out of the cold.
