Portsmouth Officers Investigate Children In Danger

PPD officers responded to two disturbing calls involving children and teens attacking a home with bats. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Child in Danger?

Employees at the Marathon on the Scioto Trail called the police to report an odd incident with a child just after 6:30 pm.

Employees said a man was in the store with a boy about 12 years old. The man kept his hand on the boy’s shoulder and did not let him out of his sight the whole time they were in the store. He even went to the bathroom with the boy.

Police asked the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office to check the address of the man involved.

Dine and Dash

Gatti’s Pizza reported that a woman left without paying her bill at 11:23 pm. When officers spoke to the woman, she claimed her aunt was supposed to pay the bill. She said she would pay the bill the next day.

The restaurant said if she didn’t pay the bill, they would press charges. It turned out there was an open warrant for the woman’s arrest. Police took her into custody.

Teens Attack Home With Bats

A Vermont Avenue caller told police teenagers were attacking her home. She said they were breaking windows and doors.

Police took information for a report.

Caller Reports Dogs Locked in Dirty Cage

A caller asked police to check on two dogs at an Argonne Road home. The caller said one of the dogs is kept in a feces-filled cage in the driveway and appears to have a broken leg. Another dog was in a garage behind the house.

Police said the dogs appeared to be okay.

6th Street Burglary.

A 6th Street caller reported a break-in just after noon. The basement windows were pried own. Among the missing items were a flatscreen TV and Bluetooth speakers.

Police Respond to Child’s Screams

Officers were called to Highland Avenue for a report of a child screaming. When police arrived at the scene the child’s mother explained that the girl had popped her shoulder out as a result of an ongoing medical issue and she’d popped it in. She said no medical help was necessary and would not permit police to check the house.

Police spoke to the child and the front door and said she did not appear to be in pain.

Officers said the woman became irate and slammed the door on them.

Woman Claims Boyfriend Dragged Her Behind Car

Just before 2 pm, police responded to a report of a woman lying in the roadway crying. She told police she got into an argument with her boyfriend and she tried to stop him from leaving in a car.

She said she was dragged by the vehicle. She refused medical treatment and declined to press charges.
