Portsmouth Police Chase Ends Up In The River

A hot pursuit ended with a suspect getting caught in the river and police investigated a toddler in danger. We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing. 

Hit and Run

At 4 pm, a driver reported that someone hit his Trans Am and took off at Kroger. Police took information for a report and contacted Kroger about security footage.

No Brotherly Love

A Jackson Street mom contacted police at 8:25 pm to report that her 12-year-old hit his 8-year-old brother with a bike and took off. 

An officer caught up with the boy and took him back home. Police advised her to follow up with the juvenile court in the morning.

Tot in Danger?

At 8:30 pm, a caller asked police to check on the welfare of a toddler at an 8th Street home. They said there were 10 people in the home doing drugs. 

A man at the home said that a woman and toddler were visiting for a short period of time earlier but had left. Police saw no circumstances that would require them to enter the home. 

Home Invasion?

A 7th Street caller contacted police at 9 pm to report a man in a hoodie attempted to get through their front door. They said he was accompanied by a woman.

The pair were allegedly fleeing from a burglary on 8th street and allegedly headed to the Four Keys Inn. Witnesses said neighbors drove the pair to the Woodbine Apartments. Police took information for a report.

Meanwhile at Speedway

At 3 am, a caller reported a man checking cars on the lot at Speedway. Police spoke with a man who said he’d dropped $5 in the parking lot and was searching for it.

Chase Suspect Jumps Into River

Police busted a man after an early morning chase. Just after 6:30 am, police spotted a suspicious truck with a trailer and motorcycle on 9th Street. The driver took off at 50 mph down Chillicothe and ran the light at Washington and then headed south on Court and West on 2nd before hopping onto the bridge and heading west on 52.

The Ohio State Patrol joined the chase and the suspect ended up under the Carl Perkins Bridge and attempted to get away in the water. Officers took him into custody.

Police confirmed open warrants for the suspect, Daniel Brant. Brant was arrested and police impounded the vehicle.

Officers contacted the owner of the motorcycle and transported Brant and a female companion to jail.
