Portsmouth Ohio Police High Speed Chase: One Cruiser Wrecked

Just after 1 am this morning, a citizen called Portsmouth Police to notify them of a suspicious vehicle loitering around a drive-up ATM machine near Aldi’s and O’Reilly Auto Parts.

Once Police arrived, they were unable to locate the vehicle as described by the caller. Rather than go back to “business as usual”, the officers decided it would be in the public interest to check other drive-up ATM’s to see if they could locate the suspect vehicle.

What follows is a transcript from the dispatch traffic that occurred. We hope to be able to release more information (including names) later today from our daily briefing from the Portsmouth Police Department.

At that point, the officer made contact with the driver (who was said to have a female passenger). When the officer was advised the driver had an outstanding warrant, a lengthy high-speed chase ensued.

Here are some transcripts from Portsmouth Police, Scioto County Sheriffs, and Ohio State Highway Patrol.

From the radio traffic, it appeared the officer was not injured. Due to the dangerous conditions, a supervisor advised that the chase be terminated. Deputies and State Patrol continued to search the back roads that connect Carey’s Run to Dry Run and Route 73.

We will update when we have more official information from the Portsmouth Police Department.

SCDN thanks all of our Law Enforcement and First Responders. We hope that the officer involved in the wreck is, indeed, unharmed.
