Portsmouth Woman Charged With Attempted Murder After Lucasville Stabbing Leaves Man Fighting for His Life

Portsmouth woman charged with attempted murder

A Portsmouth woman is being held on a $100,000 bond after Scioto County detectives say she stabbed a Lucasville man in the chest, leaving him critically injured and requiring multiple surgeries.

Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman announced that deputies arrested 40-year-old Rheena Nichole Shaw following a violent attack that occurred on Ridge Lane in Lucasville.

🚨 VICTIM FLOWN TO TRAUMA CENTER

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 5:53 p.m. on June 4 after a 911 caller reported a man had been stabbed.

When deputies arrived, they found 45-year-old Larry William Gill suffering from a serious chest wound.

Gill was initially transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center before being airlifted to an out-of-town trauma center for emergency treatment.

Authorities say he has since undergone two surgeries and remains in critical condition.

🔪 DETECTIVES SAY ATTACK HAPPENED AS SUSPECT WAS LEAVING

Investigators determined that Gill and members of his family were staying at a residence on Ridge Lane when Shaw visited the home.

According to detectives, Shaw was leaving the residence when she allegedly stabbed Gill in the chest before fleeing the scene on foot.

Law enforcement officers later located Shaw and took her into custody without incident.

⚖️ ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE FILED

Shaw appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Thursday, where she was arraigned on multiple felony charges.

She is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.

The charges include:

The attempted murder charge reflects investigators’ belief that the stabbing was severe enough to support allegations that the attack was intended to cause death.

👀 MORE CHARGES POSSIBLE

Sheriff Thoroughman said the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Additional charges may be presented to a future session of the Scioto County Grand Jury as detectives continue reviewing evidence and witness statements.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091.

📋 LIMITED PRIOR CRIMINAL HISTORY

Court records indicate Shaw’s previous appearances in Portsmouth Municipal Court primarily involved traffic matters and civil cases.

Records also show a 2007 charge of furnishing alcohol to a minor, which was ultimately dismissed.

🚑 A CASE THAT COULD HAVE ENDED DIFFERENTLY

Investigators say the victim remains hospitalized and fighting for his life more than a week after the attack.

For now, Shaw remains behind bars while prosecutors pursue one of the most serious charges available under Ohio law.

The case is expected to move forward in the coming weeks as detectives continue their investigation.
