Pot Plant Employee Accused of Pocketing the Product

Security staff at one of Ohio's licensed cannabis facilities say an employee didn't just clock out—he allegedly walked off the job carrying marijuana that never should have left the building. The alleged theft involved 7.5 grams of marijuana flower and was uncovered after security officers noticed suspicious activity outside the facility. According to the report, security personnel became suspicious when they observed a vehicle waiting outside the property while an employee was leaving the grounds. Moments later, a supervisor approached the security gate asking if anyone had seen the employee. Security advised that the worker had just exited the property, gotten into the waiting vehicle, and left the area. The incident occurred at Harvest of Ohio's cannabis facility. Investigators then began reviewing surveillance footage to determine what had happened. According to the report, cameras allegedly captured the employee picking up a sealed 7.5-gram package of marijuana flower and placing it inside the front pocket of his hoodie. Investigators say the employee then walked toward the front office area but turned around after noticing other people nearby. Rather than continuing through the building, the report states he returned toward the labeling area before exiting through a side door. Security officers say he then walked around the outside of the building, exited through the front gate, and got into the waiting vehicle before leaving the property. The employee was later identified as William Evans. Security staff told deputies they would provide surveillance video as evidence to investigators. The case remains under investigation. Cannabis Facilities Have Some of the Tightest Security Rules in Ohio Ohio's licensed cannabis cultivators, processors, and dispensaries operate under strict state regulations that require extensive surveillance, inventory tracking, employee access controls, and security monitoring. Every gram of cannabis is tracked through a state-regulated inventory system from cultivation to sale. Missing product typically triggers an internal investigation and often requires law enforcement involvement. Because of those security requirements, investigators frequently have multiple camera angles and inventory records available when examining alleged thefts from licensed marijuana facilities.
