He walked into Lowe’s, headed straight for the tools, and walked out with more than he paid for — which was nothing.
According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were given details of a theft. Employees told deputies a man entered the store, went directly to the power tool aisle, and removed a display tool. He then took off the anti-theft device before passing all points of sale and leaving the store without paying.
The suspect was seen getting into a GMC SUV, but no license plate information was captured at the time.
Store employees also told deputies the same individual may be responsible for similar thefts in the past. In previous incidents, the suspect was reportedly seen leaving in a white Chevrolet Malibu with West Virginia registration. A check of that plate returned to a female registered owner, though no connection has been confirmed.
Surveillance images were collected from the store’s CCTV system and entered into evidence. The suspect has not yet been identified, and the case remains under investigation.
For now, it’s another reminder that even display models aren’t safe when someone comes shopping with a different kind of plan.
