Portsmouth Police checked out plenty of suspicious activity on Monday including two instances where duffel bags mysteriously appeared. We check out the highlights in these 14 slides.
Suspicious Activity
- Just after 12:30 am, a caller reported a man shining a flashlight in yards and garages in the alley behind Park Avenue. Police could not locate anyone.
- A caller reported multiple subjects going in a window at an apartment on the Scioto Trail. Police spoke with residents who said there was no burglar. Officers think the caller may have mental health issues.
- Police received a report of a man on a bicycle waving a gun on Gallia Street just before 6 pm. They could not locate him.
Back at Speedway Once Again.
Speedway’s biggest fan, James Wilson, returned to the property at 7:40 am. He was gone by the time police arrived. Officers advised employees to call them if he returns.
Wilson returned to the Speedway just after midnight. Police arrested him and booked him in the Scioto County Jail.
Back Again
Another repeat unwanted visitor showed up on the porch of a Gallia Street home at 9:22 am. She reportedly headed towards Big Lots pushing a dog in a buggy.
Mysterious Duffel Bags
A caller reported finding two duffel bags under a pine tree on Summit Street. One black and one white. Police impounded them for safekeeping.
Officers found two more duffel bags on 5th street at 1:34 pm. Police impounded them for safekeeping.
Disconnected
Officers responded to a request for a welfare check just before 10 am. A woman said she was disconnected while talking with her daughter. The daughter is having problems with an ex and the mom was worried something happened.
Officers spoke to the daughter. Her phone died. Everything was fine.
Bank Account Hacked
Police received a report from a woman with hacked bank account just after 10 am. Her account was accessed by an unknown person and she was receiving text threats about the account.
Runaway Girl
Officers responded to a Thomas Avenue Apartment at noon to pick up a runaway teen and take her back to her grandmother’s home.
At 12:35 pm, police received a report that the girl jumped out of grandma’s car and took off. She later got back in the vehicle. At 1:30 pm, the grandmother informed police the girl left home again. Officers advised her parents to contact them if she showed up.
Wrecked
Police responded to a report of a man beating on a woman near the Burger King at 12:30 pm. The woman said she was not fighting with anyone. She said she wrecked her bike while carrying pizzas.
Under The Influence
- PPD responded to a report of a man overdosed on heroin at a Thomas avenue Apartment at 1 pm. He was gone when police arrived.
- Police responded to Kentland Avenue at 6:46 pm for a report of man carrying a child staggering in and out of the road.
- Officers answered a report of a juvenile OD on Glen Avenue at 7:46 pm. The victim turned out to be an adult woman. Medic 4 transported her for treatment.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
- A woman called police at 1:35 pm to report that a man named Otis stole her wallet. Police took a report.
- Police answered a call to the Oasis Convenient Mart on a report of items stolen from the store. They took a report.
Punched in the Eye
Officers responded to a report of a man chasing a woman on 16th Street. The woman said her ex-boyfriend punched her in the eye. She wanted officers to stand by so she could get her property.
Police took information for a report.
Not Too Neighborly
Officers responded to a disturbance complaint on Rose Street just before 2 pm. A woman complained that a neighbor kept coming on to her property. She alleged the woman stole thing from her property and has a flatbed trailer with trash parked on her property.
Police passed the information on to the health department.
Abandoned Vehicle
A caller informed police about an abandoned vehicle sitting on Robinson Avenue. They complained people were using it to shoot up drugs and then throw syringes in the yard.
Child Sex Assault
Just after 4 pm, officers received a report of a juvenile who needed to report a rape.
