PPD had a day filled with good deeds and dog poop. Portsmouth, Ohio officers did their share of good deeds on an exceptionally busy Tuesday but still had time to deal with a dispute involving ketchup, flour, and dog poop. Plus, what are you supposed to do if someone has a protection order against you but won’t leave you alone? We break down the highlights of the police log in these 11 slides.
Playing In Traffic
- At 1:23 am, officers answered a call about a man running in and out of traffic near the Tim Horton’s on Chillicothe. Police discovered a guy lying the roadway at 12th and Chillicothe. They assisted him out of the street.
- A caller reported a shirtless man jumping into traffic in the 1200 block of Chillicothe at 2:30 pm. The man then tried to climb on a train. Police told him to stay off railroad property.
Can’t We All Just Get Along?
- A caller reported a man and a woman engaged in a fistfight at Bannon Park just before 3 am. The pair told police they were not fighting. The officer said they seemed fine.
- Police responded to a report of two men and a woman fighting at the Hot Springs Car Wash just before 4 pm. They left a vehicle in the 2nd bay of the car wash. Officers had the vehicle towed.
- A man complained to police at 5 pm that his family had threatened him. He told police he planned to file for a restraining order.
- Officers responded to a report of a man punching walls on Mabert Road at 5:32 pm. He was upset that his roommate had company.
Under The Influence
- Police responded to a report of a woman lying on the sidewalk on High Street just after 3 am. Medics arrived on the scene and cleared her. Police said she seemed able to walk, so they sent her on her way.
- A caller reported a woman acting very strangely near Kroger at 11:27 am. When the officers, arrived they could not locate her.
- Just before 3 pm, officers responded to a report of an apparently high woman attempting to get into a vehicle on Gay Street. The woman told officers her boyfriend was on the way to pick up the vehicle.
- Fifteen minutes later, police responded to a report of an overdose on 14th Street. Officers said the man appeared to be drunk. They arrested him and took him to jail.
- Officers answered a call for an accidental overdose at 12:49 pm on Waller Street.
- A woman reported a shirtless man sitting on the porch of her 7th Street home at 9:22 pm. She thought he appeared to be high. When the police spoke to him, he said he wanted some water. Officers thought he might have mental health issues.
This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things
- At 6:50 am, a caller reported she watched a man cut the tires of a vehicle on High Street. She was able to describe the suspect.
- A Kendall Avenue caller reported a medication theft at the Woodbine Apartments just after 4 pm. Police took a report.
Death Threats
A woman called police at 7:54 am to report her ex-boyfriend threatened to kill her brother-in-law. Police arrested him and took information for an aggravated menacing report.
False Alarm
- A residential burglar alarm sounded just after 9 am on Rhulman Avenue. It turned out to be a false alarm.
- Another residential alarm went off on 5th street at 2:36 pm. That was also a false alarm.
- A homeowner’s daughter accidentally set off a residential alarm on Linden Avenue just before 4 pm.
Good Samaritans
- A man discovered some lost identification in Downtown Portsmouth and turned them into an officer. The officer returned the identification to the rightful owner’s home.
- Just before 10 am, a man on his way to a doctor’s appointment was involved in a car accident on Chillicothe Street. Officers helped arrange for a tow and gave the man a ride to his appointment.
- An officer spotted a man whose vehicle had broken down on 2nd Street just after 11 am. They helped him disconnect a trailer from the vehicle and took the trailer to the impound yard for a few hours to keep it safe until the man could pick it up. Police then helped push the vehicle off the road. Police said as long as he picks it up soon, it would not be impounded. The man returned at 12:31 pm to retrieve the trailer.
- A caller found a wallet containing a Social Security card and an ID on the Scioto Trail at 4:30 pm and turned it in to police. Police took custody of the wallet.
- At 8:40 pm, a man told police he’d found a bike near his boat at the Shawnee Boat Club.
- Police responded to a medical alarm on 29th Street at 10:32 pm. When they couldn’t get an answer at the door, police and fire personnel made entry. The helped a man to his bed. The fire department checked him out.
Flour, Ketchup, and Dog Poop
- A disagreement between neighbors got pretty messy on Highland Avenue. Just after 9:33 am, a woman complained that her neighbor put flour and ketchup on her porch.
- The woman also said she found dog poop on her lawn that she believed belonged to the neighbor’s dog. She scooped the poop into a bag and left it on the neighbor’s porch. Police said there’s no way to prove who put the flour and ketchup on the porch or whose dog left behind the present on the lawn.
- Police advised all parties about what constitutes criminal mischief.
Dognapped?
A man called officers at 9:47 is in regards to a missing Great Dane puppy. He claimed the dog went missing and the people who found it are giving him the runaround.
Officers put him in touch with Animal Control and the Dog Warden. He then admitted that the dog was too hard to take care of and he wanted to give it up.
I Didn’t Call You
Police received a hang-up call asking for help at 5:37 pm. They traced the call to the 2200 block of Mabert and went looking for the caller. They did talk to a woman in the area but she said it wasn’t her.
Unwanted Ex
A man called police at 9 pm to report his ex kept calling and texting him. She has a protective order against him and he was afraid she would come to his house.
Police advised him not to stay in the house and not to contact her. By the time police arrived, she’d already been there and left.
