PPD officers tried to help a homeless woman but didn’t have much luck and the 3rd Street weirdo returns. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
- Police responded to a report of people living in the garage behind an abandoned burned house on 6th Street. When police arrived at the scene at 7:30 pm, they found two men and advised them to leave the scenes.
- Just before 8 pm, Summit Street callers reported a man in a yellow shirt causing a disturbance in front of a home. Officers arrested a man for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. This was his 11th arrest.
- A Buckley Avenue caller reported a man and woman with flashlights and backpacks were checking vehicles in the neighborhood. The pair left before the police arrived.
Caught on Camera
At 8 pm, a man called police to the Kroger parking lot after he said a woman hit his truck. He told officers, the woman ignored him and walked into Kroger.
He had dashcam video of her hitting his vehicle. It turned out the woman had recently had a stroke and was also hearing impaired. She hadn’t heard the man earlier.
Police stood by while the two exchanged insurance information.
The Party’s Over
In an unusual twist of events, a host asked police to come out and shut down a party at her 20th Street home.
Police went out to the home at 2:36 am and helped close down the party without incident.
Police Try To Help Homeless Woman
Officers attempted to help a homeless woman after she was spotted sleeping in the vestibule of PNC Bank on Gallia for the second day in a row.
An officer gave the woman a ride to the 17th Street Homeless Shelter. The shelter refused to allow the woman inside. Shelter officials banned the woman for a year because she left the shelter without informing anyone.
Police exhausted all options to find her a place to stay before dropping her off downtown. The woman said they might get another call about her because she might try to go inside and get warm again.
Under The Influence
- Just before 1 pm, a Mabert Road caller reported someone slumped over in a red Ford Escort. Officers discovered a woman with an open warrant and took her into custody.
- A Timmonds Avenue caller reported a drunk man passed out in his own vehicle at 2:17 pm. The caller said the alcoholic man had a beer in his hand. He was outside the vehicle when the police arrived. Police took him into custody.
Hey, That’s My Stuff!
Police responded to Jackson Avenue for a report of a stolen bicycle and Chromebook at 5:32 pm. Officers took information for a report.
Third Street Weirdo Returns
Police headed back to Third street for another report about strange behavior from a 3rd Street man. Previously, police were there for reports of the man waving a knife.
This time, a neighbor said the man was touching himself on his front porch. Police said he denied touching himself but was uncooperative with police.
