Shooting, DOAs, Rape, and More Investigated

Portsmouth Crime

Portsmouth, Ohio Police coped with a tragic Thursday after two people were found dead in suspected drug-related circumstances. Officers also answered calls for a man shot, a report of a rape, and a gun-toting guy looking for his wife’s lover. There were even reports of a man swinging an ax in public and a guy changing clothes at the Post Office. We break down the highlights of an absolutely insane day.

Love Triangle Trouble

A love triangle caused a ruckus on Farney Avenue just after 2 am. A caller reported that the husband of the woman he’s having an affair with was beating on his door. If that wasn’t a bad enough situation, the caller reported that the man was armed with a gun.

Three units rolled to the scene and talked with both parties. The husband was pretty ticked off at the guy who lived there. He’s having an affair with his wife and won’t quit messaging her.

However, the husband had a concealed carry permit and when police checked security footage from the home, the weapon never left the holster. Officers determined no direct threats were made.

The report said police advised both parties, though it didn’t specify what the advice was.

Not At This Address

Just before 11 pm, officers went on a hunt for an alleged domestic disturbance between a mother and son at a Front Street apartment complex.

The apartment number given by the caller didn’t exist. A tenant on the third floor said the problem could possibly be on the fourth floor. Police checked the fourth floor but didn’t find any disturbance.

Under the Influence

At 10:48 am, officers responded to a report of an overdose on 6th Street. A caller reported a woman in camo pants lying in the middle of the road.

Stealing From Family

Officers received a call from the Woodbine apartments claiming someone stole an elderly woman’s medications. The person calling in the problem was not the victim.

The thief is a family member of the victim and she didn’t want to press charges. The reporting party was hoping to file charges on the victim’s behalf. Officers advised her she couldn’t do that.

Hey, That’s My Stuff

At 1:34 pm, a Franklin Avenue caller reported a stolen package. He said the package contained a chainsaw.

Mom Is A Mean Drunk

Officers responded to a 14th Street caller just before 3 pm. She told police her mom had been drinking and was starting to get violent.

She wanted police to remove her mom from the premises but they were unable to make the intoxicated woman leave. Mom’s boyfriend was supposedly on the way to get her.

Man With An Ax

At 5:47 pm, police answered a call to 17th Street about a man in a red coat and black hat swinging a small ax around. The caller said the guy appeared to be high.

It turned out the guy had a valid warrant. Police took him into custody.

DOA

Sexual Assault Reported

A victim reported a rape to police just after 7:30 pm. The assault allegedly happened in Sciotoville. Police took the victim to the hospital for an exam.

Offnere Street Shooting

Just after 8 pm, multiple units responded to a report of a man shot in the abdomen behind Spectrum Cable on Offnere.

The victim called his mom when it happened and she notified the Sheriff’s Office who contacted Portsmouth Police.

Police wanted to evacuate the victim via air ambulance but flights were on hold due to the weather. Officers said they took reports from multiple witnesses.

Changing Clothes In The Post Office

Just after 10 pm, police responded to a report of a man changing clothes inside the Post Office on Gay Street. The caller said the man looked as if he were running or hiding from someone.

When police caught up to the guy, they described him as wet and angry. They explained to him that he could not sleep in the entryway of the Post Office.
