Police responded to several individuals having mental health issues on Friday. They also helped rescue dogs from a dangerous living situation and set a playground prankster straight. Playing Around
A caller reported banging at Allard Park just after 2 am. They believed kids were vandalizing playground equipment.
When police arrived, they discovered that the swing chains were wrapped around the poles and the swings were unusable. One of the juveniles who took part in the prank was still there. The officer supervised while the boy fixed all of the swings. He gave him a good talk and took him home.
False Alarms
- Just before 3 am, officers responded to a residential alarm on Park Avenue. Turned out to be an accidental set off.
- Just before 10 pm, police responded to a panic alarm on 23rd Street. Turned out the resident accidentally set it off.
Nobody’s There
Officers answered a call at the Holiday Inn on 2nd Street just after 3 am. A man told an employee people were after him. He claimed multiple subjects were in his room. Officers found no one in the room. Security footage showed no one in the hall.
An ambulance took him to SOMC for treatment.
Animal Welfare
Officers assisted the City Health Department and the Dog Warden in rescuing some animals from a possibly dangerous situation at 10:37 am. They removed dogs from the care of people who were living underneath the Second Street Bridge.
Cry For Help
A friend of a suicidal man called police just before 11 am. He said his friend had threatened to kill himself by cutting his throat.
Officers responded to a Summit Street residence to help out. The man agreed to speak to a mental health professional at SOMC.
Under The Influence
- A caller reported a woman stumbling into traffic near the Pizza Pub on the Scioto Trail. They said she was almost hit by a car. When officers arrived at 11:20 am, she was gone from the scene.
- A few minutes later, another caller reported a woman apparently passed out on a bench on Gallia. She was also gone when police arrived.
- Just before noon, a passerby reported four suspicious people on 11th Street. Two men and two women appeared to be snorting drugs while leaning against a building across from Sonic. All four were gone when officers arrived.
- Police responded to an overdose at Bannon Park at 12:33 pm. A man overdosed and was turning blue. He was transported to the hospital.
- Just before 5 pm, police answered a call for an overdose on Wayne Avenue. The man refused medical assistance.
- At 6:41 a caller reported a man passed out on Gay Street. An ambulance took him to the hospital.
- Just before 9 pm, a man asked police to check on a woman in 17th Street apartment. He said she went inside 2 hours previously to use heroin and hadn’t come out. There was no answer at the door.
Hey! That’s My Stuff
- At 1:12 pm, a woman reported a stolen bicycle. She said the bike was taken from her Baird Avenue garage. Police took information for a report.
- A caller reported a scooter stolen from a Kendall Avenue apartment at 8:55 pm. It was returned about 10 minutes later.
- A 1996 Maroon Ford Ranger disappeared from the Park and Ride sometime between 6:30 pm and 10 pm. Police took a report.
Time To Go
The auxiliary homeless shelter on 17th Street asked police to remove a man who was being rude and obnoxious just after 6 pm, He agreed to get his stuff and go.
Dog Days
A woman called police just before 8 pm to ask for help for her son. She said he’d been attacked by a neighbor’s dog and now the neighbors were after him.
When police went to his home, he told them to get off his property. He wanted to handle the matter himself. Then he locked himself in the house.
Officers did advise the neighbors to keep their dog on a chain.
Upside The Head
- Police answered an assault call on Royce Street just before 8 pm. A man was bleeding from the head. He said a woman assaulted him. However, he didn’t want medical help and refused to press charges.
- Police answered a call to Summit Street after a piece of wood came over a fence and hit a 10-year-old in the head just after 10 pm. Turns out an 8-year-old threw the item. Officers spoke to both sets of parents.
Out To Get Me
A man called officers to Orchard Drive to report that people were trying to jump him. Police said he suffers from some mental health issues, Officers returned him to his Dorman Drive apartment. Just after 11:30 pm.
He called police again at 11:53 pm to report someone was in the house. He called again at 1:30 am on Saturday to report the intruders.
SOMC decided he required hospitalization.
