Rarden Community Center Trashed-Unlikely Obstruction of Investigation

You’d think people would respect all of the good a community center does in a small town, but we’ve told you before about incidents surrounding the Rarden Community Center. The most recent one was pretty bad.

Just after 3:30 p.m., a caller reported that someone broke into the center overnight after the building closed at 10 p.m.

Someone threw eggs and flour all over the floor and moved the fire extinguisher to another room. Unfortunately, the facility does not have security cameras and there were no witnesses.

Cows Impede Vandalism Investigation

A new twist in the investigation into the vandalism at the Rarden Community Center. Deputies are now looking at another similar case of vandalism, and they even have a suspect. However, a herd of cows ended up making the investigation just a little more challenging.

Just after 6 p.m., deputies responded to a call that someone broke into the old Otway school, took the fire extinguisher, and tore a few things up. The suspect apparently wrote their name on the board.

On the way to investigate, the deputy encountered some cows and had to round them up and put them back in their corral before continuing on.

When the officer arrived at the scene, they learned someone had broken into the gym in the abandoned part of the school. This has apparently been an ongoing issue. The reporting party wasn’t sure if the person whose name was on the board was the perpetrator or if someone who didn’t like them wrote it there.

Officers spoke to a suspect who said he hadn’t been near the school since he was a child and had only driven through the town on the way to see his dad. Officers asked if he had any enemies, and the suspect did say he was having trouble with a former friend over a girl.

The officer took the information and agreed to step up patrols in the area.
