Rarden Donating Fire Truck To Missouri

Like every other volunteer fire department in Scioto County, the Rarden Fire Department is short on members. The department has two engines, but not enough folks to staff them, plus the older fire equipment can be expensive to maintain.

However, the department is turning lemons into lemonade by donating one of their engines, a 1991 Pierce, to a struggling volunteer fire department in Naylor, Missouri.  Currently, that department has a 1979 fire engine that it just put up for sale in anticipation of receiving the Rarden VFD’s generous gift.

The Naylor Missouri Volunteer Fire Department is back on the job after having ceased operations for several years, but their equipment is in pretty bad condtion. The Rarden Village Council approved the plan to gift that struggling department with the 32-year-old fire engine.

It not only saves the village the cost of maintaining an older engine they don’t have enough people to staff, but it makes room in the firehouse for more modern equipment the village hopes to purchase soon.

The village is still searching for men and women willing to answer the call and serve the community as volunteer firefighters. If you’d like to learn more, contact Chief Brad South at 740-370-5810.
