Raymond Eugene Robinson, 64, of Athens, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023, at his home. He was born November 12, 1958, in Portsmouth, a son of the late Doris Mills Robinson Bell and William Robinson.

Ray was a 1977 graduate of Portsmouth High School and he worked as a counselor for Bassett House in Athens. He retired from Progressive Insurance where he had worked as a Customer Service Trainer for many years. Ray was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Portsmouth and he loved to talk politics, having worked on Governor Ted Stickland’s staff in his early days of public service. Ray was also a diehard Cleveland Browns fan and he cheered on the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Surviving are his children, Jason Reid of San Antonio, TX, Raymond E. Robinson II and Jeremy Dante (Misty) Hamrick, all of Portsmouth; two daughters, Bianca Renee (Juan) Hamrick of Columbus and Annette Lillian Leslie Ann Oglesby of Portsmouth; best friend and mother of his children, Jennifer Hamrick of Portsmouth; four brothers, Reginald (Janice) Robinson of Athens, Bishop Harold G. (Starria) Bell, Jr. of Portsmouth, Mark Bell of Los Angelas, CA, and Alphonso A. Robinson of Austin, TX; two sisters, Cheryl Koerber of Seattle, WA and Francine Bell of Athens; 16 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Ray was also preceded in death by five siblings, Russell Robinson, Roger Bell, Kenneth Robinson, Renee Robinson and Lisa Bell; and his stepfather, Harrold Bell, Sr.

A Gathering of Family & Friends will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 4 to 5 P.M. at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth. Graveside services will be held at 5:30 P.M. Saturday at Scioto Burial Park with Bishop Harold G. Bell, Jr. officiating.
