Rebecca Jones: Sex with a Minor Surprise Sentence
Portsmouth, Ohio- Nearly a year to the exact day, the sentencing of Rebecca Jones took place at 1:15 pm today. Jones was initially charged with four counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor and corrupting another with drugs.
The victim was a 15-year-old boy at the time of the incident.
On February 1st, Jones entered a guilty plea on one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, which is a felony of the third degree.
At her sentencing, today, she was ordered to Register as a tier 2 sex offender, pay $600 for mental health counseling of the victim, 90 days in jail, and then probation. In court, it was referred to as “Community Control” which means the probation term will be supervised.
The victim’s mother said in her impact statement “It may not be the end result we had hoped for, but to protect my child from any more emotional, mental setbacks, we are ready to move forward and work for it’s putting this in the past.”
Of Jones, she called her “a horrible woman” that groomed her child into “fulfilling her disgusting sexual desires”. The mother also referenced other victims of Jones that were ” conveniently over the age of 16″. In Ohio, the age for sexual consent is 16 so long as the other party is not a parent, teacher, minister, or is in any authoritative position.
Closing her impact statement, the victim’s mother said ” I have a lot more things I would have loved to scream at you but that would only make me feel better temporarily”.
Jones made no formal statement and did not seem to make any eye contact with the victim’s mother or anyone else in the small crowd that had gathered.
Jones was escorted from the courtroom by a sheriff’s deputy to be processed and advised of the rules pertaining to her probation.
