Reinelda “Nel” Edna Diehlmann, 85 of Hillsboro, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at Highland District Hospital. She was born on August 22, 1939 in Highland Park, Michagan to the late Dumas Speight and Iveane Reinert Speight. On July 30, 2016 she was united in marriage to Daniel Andrew Diehlmann of Hillsboro. In addition to her husband, Nel is survived by her children; Wayne (Joyce) Huck of Bloomington, Indiana and Martin (Cindy) Huck of Washington D.C.; Grandchildren, Elliot (Rachel) Huck of Nashville, Tennessee, Gabriel Huck of Bloomington, Indiana, Joel (Danielle) Huck of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Abigail Huck of Indianapolis, Indiana and Nathanael Huck of Bloomington, Indiana; Nel was joyfully awaiting the arrival of two great grandchildren; siblings, Audrey (Calvin) Tysen of Waverly and Ivan Speight of Farmington Hills, Michigan. In addition to her parents, Nel was preceded in passing by her first husband Robert J. Huck; sister, Margerite (Bill) Buck and sister-in-law, Lorraine Speight.
Nel was a retired educator who served in various capacities in public education from the classroom to the services for special needs. Her passion to help others through the church and educational community spanned from Ellwood City, Pennsylvania to Xenia to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and beyond. Nel was an avid gardener who loved nature. She was a devoted Christian and served the church in every community she lived and currently she was a member of Global Methodist Church in Hillsboro.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Dr. Derek Russell officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
