Report of Man With Machete Causes Panic

Portsmouth Police Daily Briefing. 

Officers responded to a report of a man with a machete in Wayne Hills and a drunken campout at the Post Office. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing. 

Car Runs into Structure

A vehicle crashed into a structure at Dorman and Grandview at 10:37 am. Officers took a man into custody.

A1 Towing removed the vehicle to the impound lot. 

Worried Sister

A worried woman asked the police to check on her brother and his infant son. The brother had been ill and she was unable to reach him.

Police contacted the man just after 2 pm. He was fine, but he had been ill. The child was sleeping at the time. The man said he would call his sister to let her know he was all right.

Man With Machete Causes Panic at PMHA

A Wayne Avenue caller contacted police at 4:20 p to report a man with a machete asking where his money was. An officer caught up with the man behind 1801 Wayne. 

Police said his weapon wasn’t a machete but a piece of chrome trim from a vehicle. Officers advised the man to stay off the property unless he was an invited visitor. Police discovered a syringe on him, confiscated it, and disposed of it in a sharps container. 

PMHA Parking Crackdown

At 4:49 pm officers ticketed a vehicle parked on Wayne Avenue for expired tags and impounded it. The owners provided a key to the police and it was towed to the impound lot.

Forty-five minutes later, officers cited a blue dodge with no visible registration. They took a woman into custody and had the vehicle towed. 

Under the Influence

The manager of the Royal Inn notified police at 6 pm about a man sitting in a blue Jeep for several hours who appeared to be out of it. Police took the man into custody and had the vehicle towed. 

Camping at the Post Office

Portsmouth Post Office employees reported two men camping out in the lobby and drinking just before 7:30 pm.

Officers took a man into custody and dropped him off at the Scioto County Jail.
