Rita Kay Horsley, age 73, of Greenup, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Community Care Hospice Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Rita was born on December 20, 1952, to the late Carl and Lou Alice Burns.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Lonnie Eugene Horsley, two sisters, Glenda Mae Horsley and Velma Deen Rhoden, and a brother, Roger Dale Burns.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Lonzo Horsley; her son, Michael (Amy) Horsley; her daughter, Michelle (Jason) Huff; her brother, Rick (Jenny) Burns; and her sisters, Ruby (Paul) Madden and Lisa (Dale) Royster. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jamie (Melenie) Horsley, Ryan (Rachel) Huff, Dylan (Mackenzie) Horsley, Dustin Huff, Drew Horsley, Ethan Huff, and Kaylee Horsley, as well as two great-grandchildren, Elaina Jo and Creed Soloman Huff. Additionally, she is remembered by her special niece, Renee Weddington, and her sons, Nathan and Josh, as well as Bryce Madden and her step-granddaughter, Olivia Wolfe, whom she cared for as if they were her own.
Rita cherished caring for her family and the joy her grandchildren brought to her home. She took pride in watching over them and played a significant role in raising each one. She was deeply loved and will be immensely missed.
Funeral services and a visitation for close family and friends will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, Kentucky. Following the service, burial will take place at the Horsley Family Cemetery in Greenup, Kentucky.
