Scioto County sheriff’s deputies handled two suspicious person calls, including a shirtless man pushing a bike in the road at 3 a.m. and trespassers at Portsmouth Raceway Park.
Deputies responded to Bussey Road and Dogwood Ridge Road in Porter Township around 3 a.m. after a caller reported a man in the middle of the roadway.
The caller said the man was on a bike, not wearing a shirt, carrying a backpack, acting strangely, and trying to hide when cars went by.
When deputies caught up with him on Bussey Road, the explanation turned out to be less dramatic.
The man told deputies everything was okay and said his bike was stuck in a high gear. He said he was pushing it back home in a safe manner.
No arrest was reported.
Later, just after 8 p.m., deputies responded to Portsmouth Raceway Park for a report of trespassers on the property.
The caller said the property had been having issues with break-ins.
When deputies arrived, they advised everyone there to leave and not return without the owner’s permission.
No arrest was reported in that call, either.
The calls are a reminder that “suspicious” does not always mean criminal — but at 3 a.m. in the middle of the road or after break-in problems at a raceway, people are still going to call it in.
